Ajitha Anand is in the Class of 2018 at The Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School. Since age four, she has been in a competitive swim league (currently, she coaches swim at the YMCA); since age five, she has trained in classical Indian dance. She was Student Council President at McCullough Junior High School and continued her leadership as a Director of Branding, joining for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work in a professional environment to showcase talent and ideas. She has one dog, Lilly, who likes her more than anyone else – and that is her most prized achievement.
Andrew Yu is in the Class of 2019 at The Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School. He has been the Senior Patrol Leader of his troop for the 2015-2016 Fall Term, qualified for the 2016 International Career Development Conference, and placed first in the 2016 ExxonMobil Texas State Science and Engineering Fair. In his free time, he reads and practices violin. As an ex-debater, Andrew met many people with unique stories to share. For the sake of helping them share their narratives with the world, he joined TEDxYouth at the Woodlands as a Director of Speaker Selection and Publicity/Social Media.
Annanya Chaturvedi is in the class of 2017 in the Academy of Science and Health Professions at Conroe High School. She is an officer in various clubs around her school such as the TROIKA, the creative writing club, and Interact, a community service club. After graduation, Annanya plans to major in psychology and education and enter the field of education design. In TEDxYouth@TheWoodlands she works as director of Sponsor/Fundraising, Finance, and Venue, and she hopes to aid in similar endeavors in the future.
Emily Barrera is in the class of 2017 for both Conroe High School and Lone Star College. Emily is currently in Conroe High School’s National Honor Society, Student Council, and Mu Alpha Theta program. She is also a varsity violist. In her spare time, Emily writes short stories and practices her instrument. She joined TEDxYouth@TheWoodlands because she loves the idea of working with other brilliant minds to produce an event that shares with the community the remarkable ideas nearby. Emily embraces this opportunity to expand her horizons and participate in something which she have never done before.
Derrick Liu is in the class of 2018 at The Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School. He is part of the Varsity Tennis team at College Park and College Park’s Chinese club. Derrick often spends his free time playing tennis and browsing the internet. He decided to join TEDx as it was an unique opportunity to learn experiences he wouldn’t experience until met with the real world. In TEDx he is part of the Branding team.
Hannah Meiseles is in the class of 2017 at The Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School, where she is involved in DECA, Orchestra, Interact Rotary Club, National Honor Society, and Science Fair. She has received awards from the Intel ISEF and the American Chemical Society for her work in chemical energy. In the future, Hannah hopes to pursue a degree in biochemistry and join in the world of innovative biotech companies. A strong advocate for the sharing of ideas, she joined TEDx as Director of Venue and Fundraising.
Helen Wang is in the Class of 2018 at The Woodlands High School. Born in New York City, she moved to Texas at age five. She joined this team because “I thought it would be fun to work with people my age to create a huge project that I can be proud of accomplishing in the future. I’m pushing myself to step out of the box and try to do new things.” In addition to being Director of Publicity/Social Media, Stage Design, and Sponsor/Fundraising, she loves art and dance and plays the cello and piano.
Jonathon Lowe is in the Class of 2018 at The Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School. He is a part of several extracurricular activities including Band, where he plays Tenor Trombone, Texas Torque FIRST Robotics, where he is part of the Mechanical team and hopes to join the Programming team, and Speech and Debate, where he competes in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Most of his free time is spent honing his debate or musical skills, or helping the Robotics team prepare for the next regional. In TEDx, he is a member of the Speaker Selection team.
Kelly Zhou is in the Class of 2019 at The Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School. She is actively involved in Orchestra, Team 1477 Texas Torque FIRST Robotics, Interact, Science Fair, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Engineering Design Competition. In her free time, Kelly enjoys practicing violin, piano, and art. In addition to directing Speaker Selection and Publicity/Social Media, she is preparing for her role as an On-Stage Host for the event. She joined TEDxYouth@TheWoodlands to develop her leadership skills, contribute to the mission of “ideas worth spreading”, and work with a diligent team for a unique community event.
Megan Alam is in the Class of 2017 at The Woodlands College Park High School, where she plays the trumpet in band. In addition, Megan participates in DECA, science fair, and girl scouts. She joined TEDxYouth@TheWoodlands in order to create a medium for her and other teenagers like her to get their voices heard both locally and globally.
Nandika Nair is in the Class of 2018 at the Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School. As an active member of her high school community, Nandika can be found on the tennis court as a key player on her school’s Varsity Team, spending countless hours volunteering with INTERACT, practicing for Math UIL, or working on her Science Fair Project with her partner Ajitha Anand. Their award-winning project has been applauded and recognized by many members of the local scientific community, and is currently undergoing the patent process.
Nandhitha Selvaraj is in the Class of 2019 at The Woodlands High School, where she is a flute player in the Symphonic Band. In her free time, she enjoys reading books and spends much of her week as a volunteer for the local library. Her passion for science and technology led her to compete at the world level for the 2014 Odyssey of the Mind competition. As a member of the Math Honor Society with a great interest in biology, she hopes to enter the medical field in the future. She joined TEDxYouth as a Director of Stage Design and Stage Operations in order to become actively involved with the community.
Nivedhitha (Nila) Selvaraj is in the Class of 2017 at The Woodlands High School. An avid reader, she especially loves science fiction and fantasy stories. Other passions include computer science, learning languages, Hamilton (the musical), and Bharathanatyam dance. With over seven years of yearbook experience, she leads the TWHS Yearbook Staff as Editor-in-Chief as well as being President of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, Robotics Media Captain, and Mu Alpha Theta Treasurer. Growing up on TED videos from a young age, she loves working as a Director of Publicity/Social Media, Stage Design, and Sponsor/Fundraising.
Santi Lorenzo is in the Class of 2018 at The John Cooper School. His interests include mathematics and physics. He is also enrolled in Robotics and the STEM Club. Santi is also the master carpenter for his school’s technical theatre crew. In his spare time, he enjoys watching innovative videos and designing mechanical contraptions such as robots. As a TEDx committee member, he currently works as a director in Stage design, Video, and Venue.
Wynne Yang is in the Class of 2019 at The Woodlands High School. She takes part in her school band as a clarinet player of the top band, the Wind Ensemble. Recently, she had made the high school Region 9 TMEA Region Band. In the past, she has also participated in Destination Imagination, in which her team earned second place. Currently, she a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. As a TEDx committee member, she currently works as a Sponsor-Fundraising Director and also as an On-Stage Host. Participating in TEDx gives her an opportunity to meet new people and get involved with the community.
Fabian Fernández-Han is an 18-year-old investor, designer, and philanthropist who has won a multitude of awards including the Jefferson Award, the Spirit of Innovation Award, Popular Science’s Top Ten High School Innovator Award, and the New York Stock Exchange Financial Futures Challenge Grand Prize. At the age of 10, Fabian bought his first shares of Apple; since then he has invested in a portfolio of technology stocks. His efforts in making financial literacy more accessible to young people were recently recognized by Warren Buffet, who awarded him 10 shares of Berkshire Hathaway at Buffett’s Grow Your Own Business Challenge. Fabian has been featured on Yahoo.com, CNN Money, CNN USA (live), TEDx, Fox News, ABC News, NBC News, and American Entrepreneur.
